Extension to house in Fulmer (Mouse over photo to pause/controls below).
The owners of this lovely Regency-style 60's house wanted to extend the kitchen with a breakfast-room (the kitchen is to the front of the house), and also to provide a home office. Above is a sequence of shots showing the various building stages.
It seemed a shame to alter the front of the house at all, but the solution was to attach a single storey breakfast-room to intrude the minimum possible on the main facade. This has a large lantern light to allow light to reach back into the kitchen and to provide an interesting roofline, as well as to provide excellent light to the breakfast-room itself. There was a lumpy-looking flat-roofed garage opposite the house, so the home office was designed to extend over the top with a sloping roof, to improve the appearance. The office is accessible from the breakfast-room by a stunning glass and steel spiral staircase. An archway between the garage and the breakfast-room provides access to the rear garden.
